VERONA, Italy (TND) — Pope Francis offered a message of reconciliation and compassion to all on Saturday as he led a series of dialogues at an Ancient Roman amphitheater in the Italian city of Verona. Speaking from the city made famous in the modern era by Shakespeare's plays -- "Two Gentlemen of Verona" and "Romeo and Juliet" -- Francis spoke "Arena of Peace – Justice and Peace Shall Embrace," a series of roundtables on a range of issues that have been central to his papacy like climate change, migration, economics and disarmament.
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — Could the Washington Redskins be eyeing Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin after firing their head coach Sunday following the team’s 0-5 start?
Some analysts seem to think so.
The Redskins fired head coach Jay Gruden on Sunday following the team’s 33-7 loss against the New England Patriots, according to NFL.com.
Now, the team is in need of some new leadership, and apparently, they have Steelers coach Mike Tomlin on their list of potential candidates.
UPDATE |Pittsburgh (WJAC) — A happy update as Steelers fan Morgan Koester posted to Facebook late Monday that a fellow fan did indeed find her lost Terrible Towel during Sunday's game at Acrisure Stadium.
According to the post, the towel was picked up by another fan, who reportedly lives in Ohio.
Koester says the fan messaged her to let her know that they were in possession of the towel and that they will ship it back to her.
BOSTON (TND) — An animal organization is searching for the owner of a stray cat that survived "major trauma" and had to undergo "extensive medical care" to remove both his eyes. The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell (MSPCA) said Gills is a resilient 2-year-old kitty that is "finally on the road to recovery." In a news release, the MSPCA said Boston Animal Control found Gills in Dorchester suffering from serious injuries, with officers suspecting he was hit by a car.
(AP) — Target plans to cut prices on thousands of consumer basics this summer, from diapers to milk, as inflation cuts into household budgets and more Americans pay closer attention to their spending.
The price cuts, already applied to 1,500 items, will include 5,000 food, drink and essential household goods. Target and other retailers are increasingly catering to customers who are struggling with higher prices for groceries, though inflation has begun to cool.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (TND) — The University of North Carolina (UNC) system spends at least $90 million annually to employ just under 700 staffers devoted to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, according to watchdog group OpenTheBooks.
Of the system’s DEI staffers, 288 are listed in its payroll, according to OpenTheBooks. The report found another 398 individuals worked in DEI-related roles that did not appear in payroll records, such as members of DEI councils and committees.

NEW BERN, N.C. (WCTI) — A runaway case from Michigan was resolved in North Carolina on Tuesday and ended with the arrest of a 34-year-old man.
A young girl was reported missing from Michigan and the New Bern Police Department said they received a tip that the girl was in New Bern. Officers added that they responded to 412 Stoney Hill Trail Unit B and were able to locate the girl.
