HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — The 6 News team was honored this week to win statewide prizes for excellence in journalism. WJAC-TV won five Keystone Media Awards for stories aired in 2019. The awards, announced Thursday, are organized by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association after a merger this year with the Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors awards. The 6 News team won first place awards for “Best Spot News Coverage” and “Best Continuing Coverage” for stories related to a pair of deadly shootings in State College the night of January 24th.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — Governor Tom Wolf announced Friday that the Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center was approved for $200,000 in funding for its innovative workforce teaching model. The governor says the model called "Learn where you will Earn" helps students apply skills learned in a business setting in the classroom. Students in the program learn advanced manufacturing processes, and it offers a pathway to the required certification for employment and potential job placement for graduates.
University Park, PA (WJAC) — Penn State's other star defensive end Adisa Isaac took to social media Wednesday night to announce his plans to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. The redshirt senior played in all 12 games this season for the Nittany Lions, recording 15 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and one force fumble. Isaac says he plans to make the announcement official following this weekend's Peach Bowl. He joins fellow defensive end Chop Robinson, tight end Theo Johnson and offensive lineman Olu Fashanu on the list of star Nittany Lions' players who will hope to make it on an NFL roster next season.
ST. CLOUD, Fla. (TND) — Communion at a Florida church took an unexpected turn during an argument between a woman and a priest that led to a bitten arm during Sunday Mass. The St. Thomas Aquinas Church parishioner alleged, in police video obtained by The National Desk (TND), that Fidel Rodriguez denied her from receiving Communion at the Florida church. “He wouldn’t give me the cookie. I don’t know if it was the way I was dressed, or if it is what I like,” the woman told police officers.

The 53rd edition of the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts caused a busy day in State College. Many locals say it’s like a neighborhood block party with kids and their parents on hand. The grand procession, which is the parade for kids, was held Wednesday as plenty of other events are planned as we head into what looks to be a busy festival weekend.

PATTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - State Sen. Jake Corman announced that the Nittany Valley Sports Centre in Centre County will received a $1.5 million to help complete the second phase of construction. The Nittany Valley Sports Centre will host year-round youth and adult sporting events. “Construction of this facility means year-round training and fitness opportunities for area kids and families,” Corman said. “At the same time, our area will then play host to a number of regional and national indoor tournaments.
Falls Creek, PA — The Falls Creek Borough Council has been fighting with the EPA for 12 years to redevelop the Jackson Site and now they're saying enough is enough. The Jackson Ceramix Site in Falls Creek used to manufacture and paint china from 1917-1985 until it went up in flames. "After it went bankrupt it mysteriously set fire and so it burnt to the ground," said Lou Inzana, Consultant for the Falls Creek Borough Council.
