EMPORIUM, Pa. - An apartment fire that broke out Tuesday night in Emporium has rekindled Wednesday.
A state police fire marshal said the original fire broke out at a seven-unit apartment complex on East Allegheny Avenue at 10:19 p.m. Tuesday.
The fire marshal said the fire started on a back porch on the second story.
All seven units were occupied and housed a total of 13 people.
Emporium Fire Chief Adam Johnson said the fire was contained to the second floor but the rest of the building suffered water damage.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The historic Conrad building — which sat vacant for years in Johnstown — was demolished last summer.
But Johnstown resident and former City Council member Charlene Stanton recently cited demolition dangers.
"Everybody can shout, ‘hooray, the building is down,’ but regulations and laws should've been complied with, because it should've been a simple demolition,” she told 6 News.
The City of Johnstown hired Steel Valley Contractors out of Youngstown, OH and CSI Construction out of Verona, PA for the $166,000 demolition.
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) -- Highland Hall towered empty over the historic district for about 12 years before reopening as a senior living facility Thursday.
Since about 1840, the building has served as a private girls' school, a Franciscan school, a military radio school during World War II and county offices.
At Thursday's ribbon-cutting, Blair County Commissioner Bruce Erb called Walnut Street one of the most beautiful streets in Hollidaysburg.
The street is packed with historic houses and trees, but some called Highland Hall an eyesore until recently.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — It may not be Saint Patrick's Day yet but, starting Friday night, crowds of people dressed in green flooded the streets and hit up the bars in downtown State College for the annual State Patty's.
State Patty's was in full swing by Saturday night. The student-made "holiday" has faced criticism over the years for people getting out of hand and for putting a strain on local police and medical teams.
(TND) — Veterans' groups are applauding news that the federal government might reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug.
AMVETS National Executive Director Joe Chenelly said Wednesday that such a move would be an “important step forward.”
And Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America CEO Allison Jaslow said greater access to cannabis could be a “game-changer” for veterans’ health care.
The Drug Enforcement Administration will reportedly move to reclassify marijuana, or cannabis, as a Schedule III substance.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — District 6 officials say Tuesday night's PIAA state playoff games involving the Westmont Hilltop girls' and Greater Johnstown boys' basketball teams have been forced to change venue.
According to D6 Representative Mike Hudak, a water issue was reported at Hempfield High School, the original site of the games.
Officials say the games will now be played at Charleroi High School, located at 100 Fecsen Drive, in Charleroi.
