Covenant parent Sarah Neumann stepped up to the podium, asking people to come together and find ways to protect people gun violence. UPDATE | Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Blair County have identified the suspect accused of barricading himself inside a home over the weekend. Police say 67-year-old John Laird, of Altoona, reportedly barricaded himself inside a residence along East Pleasant Valley Blvd., in Antis Township, on Saturday afternoon. Investigators say authorities initially responded to the residence for reports of a suicidal male. Troopers say Laird allegedly would not allow a woman to leave the residence and was threatening to harm anyone who attempted to come to the home.
(TND) — The Biden administration is pushing for changes to speed up the rejection of some asylum claims. The Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday afternoon that it proposed a rule to allow some claim denials in a matter of days versus potentially years. The number of migrants the new rule would apply to is small, DHS said. It would apply to those denied a legal basis to remain in the United States based on risk to our national security or public safety.
DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — A Boeing 737-300 plane carrying 85 people skidded off a runway at the airport in Senegal's capital, injuring 10 people, according to the transport minister, an airline safety group and footage from a passenger that showed the aircraft on fire. "Our plane just caught fire," wrote Malian musician Cheick Siriman Sissoko in a post on Facebook that showed passengers jumping down the emergency slides at night as flames engulfed one side of the aircraft at the airport in Dakar.

SOMERSET CO, Pa (WJAC) — Despite the annual Somerset firework show being canceled, over a dozen local businesses joined forces to find a new way to celebrate the holiday, all while staying socially distant. One of the most popular ways to celebrate Fourth of July weekend is by watching fireworks, but this year’s firework shows are being put out across the region. That’s when local business owner, Rick Sferro, of ServPro, came up with an idea.

WASHINGTON (TND) — Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., paid tribute to a fraternity Wednesday that was involved in defending the American flag from protesters at the University of North Carolina. A viral image circulating social media depicts members of Pi Kappa Phi surrounding a large flagpole and holding up the U.S. flag. The image was taken during a campus protest in which demonstrators attempted to raise a Palestinian flag in its place, according to freelance journalist Bryan Anderson.
SEATTLE (TND) — Well over 100 dogs should be feeling lucky. They were successfully evacuated after their doggy daycare center caught fire on Wednesday. The fire happened inside the Dog Resort, a daycare and boarding business in Seattle. KOMO's chopper found firefighters battling the fire as well as helping evacuate dogs from the business. Fire officials said approximately 115 dogs were brought out. Several needed medical care. So did one daycare staff member.
