FOX TWP, ELK CO, Pa (WJAC) — According to a crash report from Ridgway state police, 1 person has been charged, and two people were injured following the crash that shut down Million Dollar Highway in Elk County on Saturday. The report states that a transit vehicle was partially parked, illegally, in the right lane of the roadway, and was struck by a vehicle that did not notice the transit truck due to sun glare.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Four people have been charged in the alleged rape of a Louisiana State University student who authorities say was assaulted, then left in an Baton Rouge sub-division near where she was then struck and killed by a motor vehicle. Kaivon Washington, 18, and a 17-year-old whose name was withheld because he is a juvenile, were charged with third-degree rape, according to court documents. Under Louisiana law, the charge generally involves a victim who is “incapable of resisting or of understanding the nature of the act by reason of a stupor or abnormal condition of mind produced by an intoxicating agent or any cause and the offender knew or should have known of the victim’s incapacity.

Canon-McMillan High School standout athlete Luke Blanock isn't letting terminal cancer keep him from making his dreams come true. Blanock was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer in December of 2013 when he was just 16-years-old, according to a Go Fund Me page created by his parents. Blanock fought through 24 rounds of chemo, over 100 radiation treatments and two surgeries, the page said. Luke continued to play a full season of both basketball and baseball after being diagnosed.
EXETER, England (TND) — There's an unusual new option for people who want to further their education with a master’s degree: Magic and Occult Science. This isn’t a pre-Halloween trick or other devilry. The University of Exeter in England says the new program will show “the history and impact of witchcraft and magic around the world on society and science.” Students won’t be watching I Dream of Jeannie or Bewitched.
DUBOIS, Pa. (WJAC) — A DuBois Fire Department tradition continued Wednesday with the "sink the tub" contest at the Tannery Dam. Firefighters from all five fire companies in the city used their skills to draft water out of the dam into their engine, then use that same water to try to sink a metal wash tub in the middle of the lake. Thursday’s final competition will be the "standing pump contest"
BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities say a former Tyrone police sergeant is accused of assaulting a juvenile. Tyrone Police Chief Jessica Walk confirms to 6 News that former Sergeant Jason Hollis is facing charges following a state police investigation. Court documents indicate Hollis faces charges related to unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors, indecent assault, disseminating explicit sexual materials to minors, indecent exposure and other related offenses.
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Animal cruelty cases continue to increase and one problem in many areas is the "lack of personnel" to enforce the state's cruelty laws. Recent news out of Centre County that a humane officer is being added there is quickly drawing a favorable response. Humane officers investigate cases of animal neglect or cruelty. Last week, the Centre County Sheriff's Office announced that one of their staffers will be a county-based humane officer.
DALLAS, Pa. (AP) — A prison inmate has been charged with criminal homicide and a prison guard with involuntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of another inmate at a northeastern Pennsylvania prison earlier this year. Twenty-five-year-old inmate Nafese Pierce is charged with criminal homicide in the death of 24-year-old fellow inmate Edgar Gearhart, who was stabbed Jan. 28 in his cell at the State Correctional Institution-Dallas. Twenty-five-year-old corrections officer Osmel Martinez of Kingston is charged with involuntary manslaughter, obstruction of justice and unknown falsification to authorities, accused of allowing the crime and then ignoring concerns from other inmates about the victim's injuries.
