CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The final primary election results in Centre County are now on hold due to a court suit being filed over the status of close to 100 mail-in ballots. The county's board of elections met Tuesday, hoping to approve final certification of the primary election from April 23rd, but as we reported earlier, a challenge over the dates, or lack of them, on over 90 mail-in ballots has now led to a civil suit filed in Centre County court.

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Parents in the Westmont Hilltop School District have expressed multiple concerns about the lack of safety in the school district. Our Yazmin Rodriguez spoke with some parents, and the school district, about these issues in another edition of Crisis in the Classroom. Following what investigators have called a “foiled school shooting plot,” parents have expressed concern and anger about the district’s plan to address safety threats.
State theater officials said they are still waiting to see if they are going to be able to negotiate past a deed restriction stopping the IMAX theater plans. In the 1970s county amusements owned the state theater building, and when selling it to Lee Hospital put a restriction on the building that it could not be used to show motion pictures again. That restriction was found earlier this year and now owners of County Amusements, which owns Richland Cinemas, is looking to get paid to potentially take away that restriction according to executive director of the state theater foundation Eric Reighard.
Bedford Co., PA (WJAC) — Dozens of Bedford County government employees came together Monday to say goodbye and congratulate the county’s long time EMA director, Dave Cubbison, on his retirement. Cubbison spent the last 20 years serving the people of the county, and has led them through numerous disasters, such as the aftermath of “Super Storm” Jonas and the Hyndman train derailment. He says that the job has been extremely rewarding for him, and that it has been a pleasure working for the county.
(TND) — Child care workers are calling in sick or closing shop Monday to call attention to what they say is an industry in crisis. They’re demanding better wages and affordable, equitable child care. Community Change Action’s third-annual National Day Without Child Care features over 1,000 child care providers and parents at dozens of events planned across 26 states. “I would say our child care system is in a state of crisis,” said Taryn Morrissey, an expert outside observer to Monday’s National Day Without Child Care.

WASHINGTON (TND) — Childhood gender dysphoria diagnoses and the number of American children receiving gender-transitioning treatment, such as puberty blockers, have skyrocketed in recent years, according to data obtained by Reuters. An analysis of health information technology company Komodo Health Inc. data reveals the number of children aged 6 to 17 diagnosed with gender dysphoria increased by 70% between 2020 and 2021. Overall, more than 120,000 children face the psychological distress that may result in those whose gender identity differs from their biological sex.
